European stocks mixed, as London hit by profit-taking
 
AFP - European stock exchanges mostly rose in early deals, but London trading was dragged down by negative news over drugs giant GlaxoSmithKline and profit-taking from last week's strong gains.

FT.com - European equities welcomed the onset of winter, with oil stocks powering ahead to offset a more difficult day for pharmaceuticals.The FTSE Eurofirst 300 index traded flat for much of the day but rallied to close up 4.92 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 1,242.55.Winnie Wutte, an analyst at JPMorgan, said that markets were set to remain firm, with economic sentiment positive, and investors anxious not to miss out on any year-end rallies.In Paris, bid speculation helped the CAC-40 index outperform with a rise of 0.7 per cent to 4,586.38.Thales climbed 3.5 per cent to EU38. ...
